Several route and schedule changes for BARTA buses take effect Jan. 5.
The South Central Transit Authority, which oversees BARTA, announced the following changes:
• Route 1 (Temple via Fifth Street Highway): Eliminated time point outbound and inbound at Fifth Street Highway and Crescent Avenue. Adjusted time points to improve on-time performance.
• Route 8 (Reiffton/Shelbourne Square/Birdsboro): Added four trips to Birdsboro between 12:50 and 5 p.m. Will not serve Boscov’s Distribution Center on the 5:15 a.m. trip, instead will serve it on the 7:15 a.m. trip to better serve employee shifts. Adjusted time points to improve on-time performance.
• Route 9 (Grill/Kenhorst): Approved service to Berks Nature, 575 St. Bernardine St., inbound and outbound.
• Route 10 (Brookline): Approved service to Shillington Plaza after 6:30 p.m. inbound only.
• Route 14 (Wernersville via Sinking Spring): Will not serve Wernersville State Hospital from Womelsdorf on trips marked with “A”note on schedule.
• Route 15 (Berkshire Mall): Adjusted time to improve on-time performance. Approved to change route at Park Road and Hill Avenue to improve safety for customers and drivers. Approved to travel Hill Avenue to Reading Avenue to Penn Avenue.
• Route 16 – (Broadcasting Square): Approved to change route at Park Road and Hill Avenue to improve safety for customers and drivers. Approved to travel Hill Avenue to Reading Avenue to Penn Avenue. Added service to R.M. Palmer Company on last trip at 11:05 p.m.
• Route 17 (Glenside/Airport/Berks Heim): Approved to serve Tower Behavioral Health on inbound trips only.
• Route 22 (Lyon Station/East Penn Manufacturing-Deka) Extended route from East Penn Manufacturing to Kutztown University for all trips.
