Sheetz has once again been named to a listing of companies that care by Great Place to Work and People Magazine.
This is the fourth consecutive year the convenience chain has been named to the list, and the fifth time in six years. Sheetz ranked 10th on this year’s list, after ranking ninth in 2024.
Sheetz has been the only convenience store chain to be ranked on this list in each of those years, according to a press release.
This is the ninth year for the national listing, which recognizes the top companies in the U.S. that have “succeeded in business while also demonstrating outstanding respect, care and concern for their employees and a deep commitment to their communities,” the release stated.
“We do not take this recognition lightly as supporting our communities and employees is central to everything we do,” Travis Sheetz, president & CEO of Sheetz, said in a statement. “We are truly humbled to be standing alongside some of the leading companies in the country that are also committed to making a positive impact in their communities.”
This year’s Companies that Care rankings are based on more than 1.3 million employee survey responses and data from companies representing more than 8.4 million employees. More than 1 million of the surveys were submitted by employees at companies eligible for this year’s list, according to information in the release.
Ninety percent of employees surveyed at Sheetz said it is a great place to work compared to 57 percent of employees at a typical U.S.-based company. In addition, 92 percent of Sheetz employees feel good about the ways the company contributes to the community, according to the company. Sheetz’s employee responses were up over 2024’s results.
“Businesses are vital pillars in the communities where they operate,” Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place To Work, said in a statement. “Caring for your people and your community isn’t something you do after you build a successful business; it’s how to make your business successful.”
Sheetz works with several charitable organizations across its geographic footprint. For more than 30 years, the company has provided financial contributions, product donations and event volunteers for the Special Olympics. Sheetz also makes weekly food donations to local food banks to fight hunger, and its Sheetz For the Kidz — an employee-driven nonprofit organization — has helped more than 182,000 children in need celebrate the holidays.
“Witnessing the innovative spirit with which these companies invest in their employees, communities, and the world is truly invigorating,” Charlotte Triggs, People GM and editor-in-chief, said in a statement. “Their commitment reflects our mission, to feature what happens when ordinary people do extraordinary work.”
Headquartered in Altoona, Sheetz operates more than 790 store locations in Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina. While the convenience chain has several locations in Berks County, it does not currently have locations in Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties.
However, in June, the company received final approval for construction of Montgomery County’s first Sheetz — at 454 W. Ridge Pike in Limerick Township — opposite an existing Wawa. Construction on the 6,139 square-foot store started in July, Nick Ruffner, public affairs manager for Sheetz, told MediaNews Group in an emailed response on Wednesday, with an anticipated store opening “early next year.”
