“America’s Best Restaurants,” an ongoing series that highlights local restaurants, is coming back to Berks County to film segments at two county restaurants.
Leesport Diner, 5407 Pottsville Pike, in Ontelaunee Township; and Mimmo’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, 290 Morgantown Road in Reading, will host crews from America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) on Friday, May 16. America’s Best Restaurants will be filming on location at Leesport Diner from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and at Mimmo’s from 3 to 6 p.m.
America’s Best Restaurants is a national media and marketing company focused on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants. While at each Berks location, the crews will record a segment featuring on-camera interviews with owners and staff about the restaurant’s place in the community, and will highlight some of each restaurant’s popular dishes.
The episodes will air on social media channels at a later date, according to a press release announcing the visits. The restaurants’ finished episode premiere dates will be announced on their respective Facebook pages and both will be featured on America’s Best Restaurants’ website.
Mimmo’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria opened in 1997 and offers an authentic dining experience in a large space with multiple seating areas, according to the release, including an area with cozy booths and hand-painted murals; a banquet room for special events and parties; and an outdoor flagstone patio with a waterfall.
Mimmo’s offers a selection of appetizers, salads, pasta, chicken, veal, seafood, steak, pizza and Stromboli, burgers, and desserts.
Leesport Diner has been open since 2016, and serves an all-American menu of breakfast all day, as well as lunch and dinner in a “sophisticated yet casual” space reminiscent of a 1950s style diner, according to the release. The restaurant also offers daily specials, a salad bar, build-your-own-burgers and a large selection of desserts in a glass case.
The restaurants featured on the series are selected based on customer reviews, menu items, social media presence, and level of involvement with the community, the release stated. They are found through customer nominations, internal vetting or by a restaurant applying to be featured at www.americasbestrestaurants.com.
