Brubacher Excavating Inc. has announced the acquisition of Abel Construction and Abel Recon, two construction companies based in Mountville, Lancaster County.
Brubacher, a family-owned earthwork, underground utility and paving contractor based in Brecknock Township, Lancaster County, will finalize the agreement at the end of May, the company said in a press release.
The acquisitions are part of a long-range strategic effort to expand Brubacher’s geographic footprint and empower continued client-focused growth, the company said.
Brubacher currently serves a range of commercial, industrial, residential development, and public service clients across Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware.
“The dedication to building lasting relationships and caring about the success of team members across the Abel companies is well aligned with our Brubacher approach to doing business in service to clients and communities,” said Brubacher president Keith Brubacher. “Our teams stand ready for the many exciting opportunities these strategic acquisitions present.”

Abel Recon is an underground utility rehabilitation company serving a multi-state area with pipeline and structure lining services.
Following the transition, Abel Recon will continue to operate under its brand from its current location near York, Brubacher said.
Abel Construction has a legacy of delivering excavating, grading, and site infrastructure solutions to clients across Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland, the release said.

Abel Construction will merge under the Brubacher brand after the acquisition.
“Since the Abel family of companies’ founding over 50 years ago, we have made strategic decisions with great care and a commitment to doing what is best for our clients, team, and community,” said Troy Abel, Abel Construction and Abel Recon owner. “We are grateful for the trust each and every client places in our company and know this alignment with Brubacher, who shares our dedication to operating with a focus on people and relationships, will ensure a seamless transition and continued delivery of exceptional client service.”
Brubacher said it’s an honor to advance the Abel legacy.
“We take to heart our responsibility to advance the service excellence Abel’s clients count on and to continue to steward their commitments to provide meaningful careers for team members and positive impacts across the community,” said Brubacher.
Brubacher declined to disclose whether all Abel employees will be maintained after the merger.
