Construction projects launching this summer at White Horse Village in Edgmont Township, Delaware County, are the beginning of a much larger, multi-year plan for the independent senior living community, one that will comprehensively overhaul the campus and position it for the future in a rapidly growing industry.
“White Horse Village has set a high standard in its first 35 years,” President and CEO Michael Shaw said. “We want to ensure that standard remains high, which requires strategic thinking and careful planning.”
The new roadmap is called the Secretariat Plan, a nod to the famous, big-hearted Triple Crown winning horse. The plan champions four focus areas:
• Maintaining the investment in buildings and grounds.
• Reimagining the future to include new campus enhancements and construction.
• Modernizing to a fast internet and network system to connect the entire campus and implement emerging smart technology.
• Aging with Choices offers a robust array of services to support residents in maintaining their physical, mental and social well-being — empowering them to age successfully.
In the near term, the community is launching renovations to its Clubhouse, a hub for community activities, including a complete kitchen overhaul and renovations to the auditorium. Plans are also underway to remodel the Healthcare center.
While all these projects get rolling, the community has also undertaken a thorough, forward-looking review of existing campus facilities.
In partnership with the asset management consulting firm zumBrunnen, White Horse Village has determined property and facilities needs for the next 20 years and developed a sophisticated long-term asset management plan.
“We can’t simply react to ever-changing conditions and market pressures,” Shaw said. “We need a thorough, thoughtful approach that allows us to channel our resources in a strategic direction, and that’s what the Secretariat Plan gives us.”
